Lunar Eclipse
Tracker
This program shows you the visual appearance of the Moon as it glides through the umbral (inner) shadow of the Earth during a series of upcoming lunar eclipses. You may follow the progress of a selected eclipse by pressing either the +10 min or -10 min button to step forward or backwards in time by ten minute increments. Notice how the Moon's apparent size (owing to changing distance) and libration change from one eclipse to the next. Celestial north is up.

Note: purely penumbral eclipses are not shown in our list since the dimming of the Moon is subtle and difficult for most observers to see, particularly from urban areas. This is also true for the penumbral phases of the listed partial and total lunar eclipses. The results box shows observing data for the Sun and Moon corresponding to the chosen eclipse, location, and time step selected above.
